Richard A. Calvelli
June 17, 1939 - March 24, 2010

Biography

Richard Alexander Calvelli was born June 17, 1939 and raised in Manhattan, NY where he attended George Washington high school. He began his lifelong career in advertising at a very young age where he worked his way up to Senior Vice President of one of the world’s largest advertising agencies. He worked on many famous campaigns most notably the “How Do You Spell Relief” campaign and won many prestigious awards throughout his years in advertising. He was married young and raised a family of four (Pamela, Maria, Paula and Rick) in NY before moving to LA when he became the Senior Vice President of Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising. It was at Saatchi & Saatchi where he met his future wife Kimberlee. Richard’s heart was always in NY and when the opportunity arose for him to take a transfer with the agency he and Kimberlee moved to Suffern, NY in 1990 and married in Rome, Italy in 1992. Richard and Kimberlee welcomed their son Alexander in June of 1994. A couple of years after the birth of their son, Richard was diagnosed with prostate cancer and decided to retire to one of his favorite places – Oro Valley, AZ and tackle his disease head on. Missing his profession, he returned to work with agencies in AZ until his official retirement in 2005. During his second retirement he enjoyed Painting, Motorcycle Riding, Listening to Classical Music, Reading and Loved to Entertain. He was fortunate to be entertained by so many when Kimberlee and his children held a surprise birthday for him in NY where lifelong friends and family including his eight grandchildren: Taylor, Shannon, Jordan, Joseph, Christian, Kendall, Madison, Nicolas and his great-granddaughter Ava celebrated his 70th in June of 2009. He always enjoyed life to the fullest even up to the time of his diagnosis October 4th, 2009 with an aggressive brain cancer. Nobody fought harder or more valiantly than Richard to overcome that diagnosis when many complications and obstacles followed. He passed away peacefully the afternoon of March 24, 2010 with his loving wife by his side. He will be greatly missed by his extensive family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. E. Sipos of St. Joseph’s Carondolet; Dr. D. Brooks, Linda Barroero FNP-C and Dr. A. Neuschatz of Arizona Oncology; Intrepid Home Healthcare; his many caregivers at Casa de la Luz Hospice; and The Ken Olson Foundation for taking such wonderful care of Richard.

In lieu of flowers the family hopes you will consider making a donation to The American Cancer Society in Richards memory.
