At the very young age of 55, Jolene Hoffman lost her battle with Cancer. She died at the Casa de la Luz Hospice Center in Tucson, Arizona on Monday, January 15, 2010. Although Jolene had been residing with her mother and sister in Tucson, Arizona for the last 11 months for treatment of her cancer, she was a 30 year resident of Bethesda, Ohio.
Jolene is survived by her mother, Mildred Barclay Hoffman of Tucson, Arizona; her sister, Jeannine Hoffman Hayduk of Tucson, Arizona; and a niece Heather Hayduk-Oriani and her husband James and their family of Mamaroneck, New York. She was extremely proud of her 1 month old Great-Nephew Carmine Michael Hayduk Oriani, and his sister and brother Patricia and Brandon Oriani.
She was preceded in death by her father James V. Hoffman; her brother-in-law, Charles Hayduk; and her paternal grandparents Carl and Lois Hoffman.
Jolene was a graduate of the Huntingdon Area High School class of 1972 and a graduate of Seton Hill College in 1976 with degrees in Education and Political Science. Her first teaching position was at St. Joseph Elementary School in Bridgeport, Ohio and in 1978 she moved into the Belmont County School District where she taught several different grade levels over the past 32 years. She was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in St. Clairsville, Ohio where she had served on the church council. Over the past 11 months she was a regular attendee of Resurrection Lutheran Church in Oro Valley, Arizona.
Jolene dedicated her entire life to her profession of education, but more importantly to each and every student she ever taught. She had a special gift for those who were challenged in any way. Although she never had children of her own, the many, many children she taught during her career she loved and cared about very much. Over the years she tutored several children, some who themselves suffered from catastrophic diseases. Those children always held a special place in her heart. It was never her concern to make a difference in anyone’s life, it was her desire to make someone’s life a little better. Her family believes from the outpouring of concern during her illness that she truly succeeded in her mission in life and likewise made a difference in the lives of many.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on February 22, 2010 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Oro Valley, Arizona, with Pastors Rick Hartmann and Al Jensen officiating. A memorial service in St. Clairsville, Ohio is pending.
Memorials can be made to Casa de la Luz Hospice Center, 400 West Magee Rd., Tucson, Arizona 85704.
