Biography

George J. Putrus, Jr. was born on January 17, 1947 at Worcester Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Massachusetts to George J. Putrus, Sr. and Louisa McPherson Watt of Millbury, Massachusetts.

As a child, George enjoyed Sundays with the family, sledding in the snow, fishing and hunting with the boys. He loved dogs, especially Beagles.

He graduated from Millbury Union High School in 1965 and quickly joined the Air Force. He was stationed in several places, but landed at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in 1967. He was deployed to Thailand and returned to Davis Monthan in 1968.

On January 21, 1968, he and a friend were crusin’ Speedway when they were being chased by a couple of girls – one of which became the love of his life. George (who soon got the nickname Pete) met Diana; the two were smitten. They were engaged in April 1968. A month later, he was deployed to Thailand, Vietnam and Okinawa. He returned and married Diana on May 10, 1969.

The couple moved to George’s home state and started a family with their first son, Sean, in February 1970. The family moved back to Arizona and George started his career at Magma Copper in San Manuel, Arizona - where they also welcomed their second son, Patrick in April 1972. The family purchased a new home closer to Tucson in 1973, when they got their little girl, Catherine, in January 1977.

When his work schedule permitted, George enjoyed bowling with friends. He would watch his favorite Chicago Cubs, Mash and the Price is Right. As the game world grew, he loved playing Legends of Zelda and Dr. Mario with Diana.

George enjoyed a good laugh, The Beatles, playing with his nieces and nephews and giving tours of the desert to out-of-state guests. He will be missed, but happily remembered.
